How to test the sound insulation performance of glass curtain walls?

2024-07-10 Back

The sound insulation performance of glass curtain walls can be tested by the following methods:

1. Laboratory testing

- Acoustic laboratory measurement: In a professional acoustic laboratory, a sound source device is used to generate sound of a specific frequency and intensity, and then the sound is emitted on one side of the curtain wall, and a high-precision acoustic sensor and measuring equipment are used on the other side to measure the amount of sound penetration. The amount of sound insulation is calculated by comparing the sound pressure level, sound intensity and other parameters of the incident sound and the transmitted sound.

- Standing wave tube method: The curtain wall sample is installed in a standing wave tube, and by generating sound waves in the tube, the sound pressure distribution at different frequencies is measured to obtain the acoustic properties of the material, including the sound insulation performance.

2. On-site testing

- Sound intensity measurement method: At the curtain wall installation site, a sound source is set outside the building, and a sound intensity probe is used indoors to measure the intensity of the sound. The sound insulation effect of the curtain wall is evaluated by comparing the intensity of the outdoor sound source with the intensity measured indoors.

- Comparative measurement method: select a room with a glass curtain wall and a room without a glass curtain wall but with similar other conditions, measure the sound levels in the two rooms under the same external environment, and compare the sound insulation performance of the glass curtain wall.

- Artificial sound source and noise meter: place an artificial sound source, such as a speaker, outside the building, play a specific sound signal, and then use a noise meter to measure the intensity and frequency of the sound at multiple locations indoors to evaluate the sound insulation effect.

The following points should be noted during the test:

1. Measurement environment: Try to avoid interference from other external noises to obtain accurate measurement results.

2. Measurement location and number of points: Select multiple representative locations indoors and outdoors for measurement, and take the average value to improve the reliability of the results.

3. Measurement frequency range: It should cover sounds of various frequencies that may affect use.

For example, before the completion of a new office building, a construction company commissioned a professional acoustic testing agency to conduct on-site testing of the sound insulation performance of the glass curtain wall using the sound intensity measurement method. The testers set up sound sources of different frequencies outdoors, and then took measurements at multiple locations indoors. They ultimately obtained the sound insulation data of the glass curtain wall at different frequencies, providing a scientific basis for evaluating its sound insulation performance.
